Lone Brøndsted is a prominent professor at the University of Copenhagen, specializing in phage biology and biocontrol. She has over 25 years of experience in studying the molecular mechanisms of phage-bacteria interactions. Her research focuses on phages that infect pathogenic bacteria associated with food production and the animal gut, including Salmonella and E. coli. Since 2013, she has led the internationally recognized PHAGEBio research group, which aims to develop biocontrol solutions to combat bacterial diseases in humans and animals. Brøndsted is currently the President of the International Society of Viruses of Microbes (ISVM).
This presentation will highlight the exciting advancements in phage proteins that possess antimicrobial properties. It will explore their history and how these remarkable molecules can enhance our understanding of phage biology. Finally, the application of phage proteins in medicine and agriculture will be discussed, examining the pros and cons of how these innovations can contribute to a healthier future.
